Job Description

What will you do?

Summary:
Provide support to Pediatrics team and shadow team members as needed. The Pediatrics intern will be involved with daily tasks and project work which will give the intern gainful experience in the healthcare and patient care.

The emphasis will be on gaining exposure to what the different types of therapists do through providing hands on assistance to the therapist as it relates to patient care. For example, if a therapist is working with a patient who needs to re-learn walking skills, may ask you to push the wheelchair behind the patient while the patient is up and walking so that if the patient needs to take a break, the wheelchair will be right there with them. Or, you may be needing a second set of hands to physically assist the therapist in doing something with a patient. It’s possible you may be asked to assist with infection prevention by spraying down a mat after the patient session or something along those lines, but the emphasis will not be on “cleaning”. It will be on hands on assist to a physical therapist or an occupational therapist.

In PEDS, you may also have the opportunity to carry out some kind of activity that helps the patient practice what they’re working on in Speech and language therapy – such as possibly playing a game or practicing exercises or activities that help them improve on their therapy goals.

Internship Type:
This is a PAID internship.

Essential Intern functions: The Pediatrics team internship will be tailored to match the intern’s skills and help in developing new skills in the healthcare related to children’s care.

Customer Service Responsibilities:

Demonstrates excellent customer service behaviors consistent with organizational and departmental standards. Consistently promotes teamwork and direct communication with co-workers. Deals discretely and sensitively with confidential information.

Responsibilities in Quality Improvement:

Contributes by identifying problems and seeking solutions. Promotes patient/family satisfaction where possible; participates in departmental efforts to monitor and report customer service.
