Midtown Neighborhood Association

We are a neighborhood organization registered as a non-profit. We receive funding from the federal government via the Department of Housing and Urban Development and allocated via the City of Grand Rapids commissioners. We are one of a dozen or so other funded neighborhood associations. Most neighborhoods in Grand Rapids have a functioning association (whether funded or not) that collaborate and works together to make this city a hospitable place to live.

Geographically, our neighborhood is centrally located in Grand Rapids, Michigan between the East Hills, Fulton Heights, and Heritage Hill neighborhoods. Our boundaries are Highway 196 to the North, Fuller Avenue to the East, Fulton Street to the South, and Union Avenue to the West. Our office/HUB is nestled at the bottom corner boundaries in the same plaza as the Fulton Street Farmers Market. We operate out of the old brick building on the park-owned property.

Midtown includes Houseman Field, Fulton Street Cemetery (the oldest public cemetery in Grand Rapids), The Midtown Green, and the Fulton Street Farmer's Market, the largest source of fresh local produce in the city.

Midtown employs an Executive Director tasked with advocating alongside residents & stakeholders in matters of neighborhood improvement, leadership, and crime prevention. Our mission is to unite neighbors in a volunteer capacity, build pride in the neighborhood, and create an attractive community in which to live, work, and play.

How many internships are you providing to the program?: 2-3
What transportation options for getting to and from work are available to you?: Unsure
Public Transportation Supports: Proximity to bus line and details of which line/stop. Wheels to Work program participation and cost.: Distance to bus line maybe 500 feet. We have limited funds but might be able to provide some discount for transportation but it would be based upon board approval.
Diversity Equity, & Inclusion Commitment: Share your organizations commitment to DEI, including local or national diversity commitments/pledges, links to public content outlining your strategy, and current representation in leadership and the general workforce.: Currently, we are a very small non-profit as we grow we are highly focused on DEI. As we develop our new strategic plan in 2022 we will be focusing on increasing our diversity and inclusion as an organization. I have only been in the ED role a month and really looking forward to creating a stronger impact on equity and inclusion.
