The GRFD values people by saving lives, protecting property and responding to the needs of our community. We engage in all types of rescue activities and maintain a well-trained workforce who put the lives of others at the top of our priority list. We work 24 hour shifts necessitating us living, eating and sleeping in our fire houses and have administrative and training facilities as well.

The GRFD has been active for over 170 years. We are an integral part of the City of Grand Rapids and do everything in our power to keep the citizens and anyone visiting the city safe.
Placements require a financial obligation of $1,600 for each youth under 18 years old, and $2,000 for each intern 18 or older. Please indicate if you are a nonprofit organization and need wage assistance.:
